Bangalore Palace, India

Once the chieftain Kempe Gowda I had a dream to create a city which will be as beautiful as Hampi. He did even create a charming city bordered by a mud fort. Today, that city has grown leaps and bounds. Probably, he would have been happier to see the progress of the city if he would have been there. Yes, that city within the mud fort is none other than Bengaluru!
Yes, the history of Bangalore Fort is amazing. Although not much of it remains today, it is one of the ancient heritages of Bangalore(Bengaluru). Isn't it facinating to know more about this fortress? Have a look at some interesting facts about Bangalore Fort.

Mud Fort to Stone Fort

Kempe Gowda I constructed a mud fort but it was during the time of Hyder Ali that it was rebuilt. The present day Stone Fort was built by Hyder Ali in 1761.

British Stronghold

Bangalore Fort was captured by the British when it was under the rule of Tipu Sultan.

Delhi Gate - The Reminder

The Bangalore Fort was a vast fort with a large coverage area. However, not much of it remains. Only the Delhi Gate and a portion of the rampart can be seen at K.R.Market area in Bengaluru.

Legend of Bangalore Fort

A curious thing used to happen while constructing the Southern Gate of the fort. Every time they a built the entrance, it used to fall of immediately. So, someone had suggested a human sacrifice but Kempe Gowda was against it. However, his daughter-in-law is said to have given a self-sacrifice by cutting off her head near the Southern Entrance. Finally, they completed the construction of the fort. So, Kempe Gowda built a temple in the memory of her in Kormangala.

Tipu Palace Inside the Fort

Earlier, Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace was a part of the Bangalore Fort. Now it looks as a separate entity as the fortress doesn't exist.

Attractions Inside the Fort

Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace, Kote Venkataramana Temple, Fort High School, Vani Vilas Hospital (Fort Church) are the prominent attractions which were once part of the Bangalore Fort.

Legends of Kote Venkataramana Temple

Kote Venkataramana Temple was built during the time of Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar in the 17th century. The temple was inside the Bangalore Fort, hence the name Kote Venkataramana Temple.

Remaining Heritage

Today only the Delhi Gate and two bastions have stood the test of times. It is only remaining heritage of Bangalore Fort which we can see today.
